Sussex Cottages with Hot Tubs
Sussex Guide
Sussex cottages with hot tubs offer a perfect base for exploring this historic county's diverse landscapes. From the rolling South Downs to the stunning coastline, you'll find properties ranging from cosy couples' retreats to large group accommodations sleeping 10+.
The area boasts some of England's most visited attractions including Brighton Pier (4.5/5 TripAdvisor), Arundel Castle (4.7/5) and the Seven Sisters cliffs. Many cottages are within easy reach of these spots while providing countryside seclusion.
Sussex has royal connections too - Queen Victoria frequently visited Brighton, staying at the Royal Pavilion. More recently, Paul McCartney has owned a farmhouse in East Sussex since 1973, where he recorded several solo albums.
Self-catering cottages give you freedom that hotels can't match. Cook local produce in fully-equipped kitchens, enjoy private gardens and of course, relax in your own hot tub regardless of the British weather!

Sightseeing
Sussex packs in more sights than you'd expect. I always tell people to start with Brighton's Royal Pavilion (BN1 1EE, open 10am-5pm). This extraordinary Indo-Gothic palace looks like someone dropped a bit of India into Sussex. It gets 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and the audio tour is excellent.
Arundel Castle (BN18 9AB) isn't just any castle - it's been continuously occupied for over 900 years. The gardens alone are worth the trip. It scores 4.7/5 on TripAdvisor and opens 10am-5pm April-October.
We recommend Bodiam Castle (TN32 5UA) for that perfect medieval castle experience. It's got a moat! And towers! Kids go mad for it. National Trust members get in free and it scores 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor.
Don't miss the South Downs Way if you're into walking. The views are spectacular, especially at Devil's Dyke near Brighton - on clear days you can see for 30 miles. Perfect for working up an appetite before heading back to your hot tub cottage.
Pet Friendly
Sussex is brilliant for dogs. Many beaches welcome them year-round including Climping Beach near Littlehampton and Cuckmere Haven. I've found West Wittering Beach (PO20 8AJ) particularly good - it's huge so your dog can really run.
The Dog & Bacon pub in Horsham (RH12 1RL) not only welcomes dogs but serves them special doggy ice cream. They even have dog towels by the door for muddy paws.
Stanmer Park near Brighton offers woodland walks where dogs can roam freely. The nearby Stanmer Tea Rooms (BN1 9QA) provides water bowls and treats.
When booking your hot tub cottage, check if they provide dog beds, bowls or enclosed gardens. Many Sussex cottages go the extra mile for four-legged guests. Some even have dog washing facilities - handy after muddy South Downs walks!
Top 3 attractions you have to see in Sussex
The Seven Sisters Country Park (BN25 4AD) tops my list. These magnificent white chalk cliffs are genuinely breathtaking. The walk from Seaford to Eastbourne takes about 4 hours but you'll get photos that'll make your Instagram followers green with envy. A visitor last month wrote: "Absolutely stunning views, well worth the climb. Take water and proper shoes!"
Wakehurst (RH17 6TN) is Kew Gardens' country estate and houses the Millennium Seed Bank - the world's largest wild plant seed conservation project. The gardens cover 500 acres and change dramatically with the seasons. Spring bluebells are incredible. One recent visitor noted: "Much better than Kew itself - less crowded and more varied landscapes."
Brighton Pier (BN2 1TW) might seem obvious but it's popular for good reason. The traditional amusement arcade, fairground rides and food stalls create a proper British seaside experience. Fish and chips here is a must. A TripAdvisor reviewer wrote last week: "Still as fun as when I came as a child 30 years ago. Some things shouldn't change!"
Is Sussex good for families with young children?
Absolutely! Drusillas Park near Alfriston is one of the UK's top small zoos with excellent play areas. The beaches at Littlehampton and Bognor Regis have shallow water perfect for paddling. Many Sussex cottages with hot tubs also provide family facilities like games rooms and enclosed gardens.
When is the best time to visit Sussex?
May to September offers the best weather, but I find June ideal - warm enough for the beach but before the summer crowds. Spring brings beautiful bluebell woods and autumn offers spectacular colours in the South Downs. Winter can be magical too, especially with a hot tub to warm up in!
Do I need a car in Sussex?
While trains connect major towns like Brighton, Chichester and Eastbourne, a car gives you freedom to explore rural areas. Many of the best cottages with hot tubs are in countryside locations with limited public transport.
What local food should I try in Sussex?
Sussex is famous for its cheeses - try Sussex Charmer or Brighton Blue. Seafood along the coast is excellent, especially Selsey crab. The county produces award-winning sparkling wines that rival champagne - Nyetimber and Ridgeview are standouts.
Are Sussex cottages with hot tubs expensive?
Prices vary dramatically by season. January to March offers great value, while school holidays command premium rates. Booking midweek rather than weekends can save 30-40%. Many cottages offer short breaks outside peak season.
Is Sussex good for walking holidays?
It's brilliant! The South Downs Way runs for 100 miles through Sussex with stunning views. The Ashdown Forest (Winnie the Pooh's home) offers gentler walks. After a day's hiking, your cottage hot tub will feel even more amazing.
